Cookie Policy
Last updated 12 August 2026.
Cookies are small files stored on your device by a website. This page explains what we use them for. For how we handle personal data generally, see our Privacy Policy.
Your choices
Everything except strictly necessary cookies is off until you agree to it. You can change your mind at any time using the consent settings link in the footer of every page. Refusing optional cookies does not prevent you reading anything on this site.
Categories we use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to work and to keep it secure. This includes Cloudflare's security cookie, which distinguishes real visitors from automated attacks, and a cookie that remembers your consent choices so we do not ask you on every page. These do not require consent and cannot be switched off.
Analytics
Tells us which articles are read and how people find them, so we can decide what to write next. Set only with your consent. IP addresses are anonymised.
Advertising
Used by Google and its advertising partners to serve ads, cap how often you see the same ad, and measure whether an ad worked. If you consent to personalised advertising, these may also be used to infer your interests. Set only with your consent, and only in the categories you allow.
Affiliate tracking
Some articles link to shops or app stores through affiliate programmes. Clicking such a link may set a cookie belonging to that merchant so a purchase can be credited to us. That cookie is governed by the merchant's own policy, not ours. We label every article that contains affiliate links.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all provide controls under privacy settings. Blocking all cookies may break parts of this and other websites.
